Fall is here and with it the harvest and a brilliance of color on our island. Reflecting on the past six months, Open Table MDI saw a lot of changes.
We continued with our Tuesday Supper and our Open Garden MDI program, with the latter providing produce not only for our supper but also at our produce stands that we ran throughout the community twice a week all Summer and well into the Fall.
In the Spring, we paused our successful MDI Food Access Program. Because of increased demand in our community coupled with sharply increased food prices, we were unable to continue to provide the amount of food to the community we had previously been supplying.
The cessation of the MDI Food Access Program allowed us the time to think more about our mission statement and discuss, with our Board, how to further those goals.
The mission of Open Table MDI is to inspire strong, loving, and inclusive communities by bringing people together to share in nourishing food. Our organization helps to alleviate hunger by feeding individuals and families on Mount Desert Island and beyond.
With our two-pronged mission of community building and alleviating food insecurity in mind, we are aiming to add a second community supper by the end of 2024. As a reminder, we currently serve around 350 people every Tuesday at our free community supper in Bar Harbor. We would aim to add a second supper on the west side of MDI.
We can’t do this without your support!
-
$5000 would cover most our food costs for a month
-
$1000 would pay for more than half of a Tuesday supper
-
$350 would cover our to-go container costs for a month

Any amount is welcomed with gratitude!
